The Singing Tower of Florida Vintage Postcards The Tenor Bell

The Singing Tower is located on the highest spot in Florida and is surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds -  The Tower is built of Florida coquina stone and Georgia pink marble, weight 5,500 tons, and took over two years to complete.  It contains one of the loargest and the finest Catillons in the world, consisting of 71 bells, the smallest bell weighing 17 pounds, while the largest weighs 12 tons.  This beautiful Sanctuary and wonderful Singing Tower were given to the people by Mr. Edward W. Bok as a symbol of beauty, and as an expression of his thanks to the American Flag.  The place has been rightfully called  "The Most Beautiful Spot in America."

 The Tenor Bell, weighing a little over 11 tons is located among 70 other bells at the Singing Tower in the Mountains near Lake Wales Florida. 
The inscription reads:
This Carillon is a Tribute of Affection
From Edward William Bok to his Grandparents
Lovers of Beauty Nineteen Hundred and Twenty-six

Old Car with 3 men RPPC Postcard Friendship Friday

I guess you could say this postcard is politically incorrect.  The 3 men seem to be enjoying a good smoke.  I would like to list this postcard.  Does anyone know what kind of car this is?  Model T or?

Horse and Buggy vintage postcard Maybe from Wisconsin

Love this buggy and horse.  Its a quiet Saturday and kind of lazy!!  Rain was predicted and what a shock when it snowed about 10 PM.  At least it has melted but more rain is on the way.  Happy weekend.

Postcard Friendship Friday Friends of Grandma Cabinet Card

I am sharing a cabinet card instead of a postcard because I purchased a lot of old photographs and I am getting ready to list them.  What intrigued me about this photo it is written at the bottom  "Friends of Grandma."  These friends are probably from Creston Iowa as the the Photographer is Burgess of Creston. 

But to have so many friends wearing similar type hats.  And in black.  I wonder if it is a club.  It is fun to imagine who the gentlemen are.  Nice back to the card too.

Classic Antique Car Model T Man is posing by his new car ready to crank it up

Everyone has come outside (note woman has her apron on probably cooking dinner) while this gentleman is cranking up his new car, probably a Model T.  Wait it looks like someone is already behind the wheel.  Such a publicity shot!!

These 2 photos are quite old and you do not find many pictures of mothers and child. Low opening bid due to condition, but you can buy it now for another low price of $3.00. And not only that I will add an RPPC of my choice since I am trying to clean out my stash of postcards to make room for more.

The postcard is in poor to maybe fair condition. Edges are rough, discoloration but a nice photo. What a digital program would do for the PC. The other smaller card called CDV is also quite rough in appearance but the photo is great. I would say this is late 1800s, Mother and child. It measures 2 1/2 in by 4 1/8 inches.

Sledding the Old Fashion Way - 1908 Antique Vintage Postcard

This real photo postcard is from 1908 to 1910.  That is quite a fancy big hat the lady on the right is wearing.

Publicity Tourist Bureau Gananoque Cover 1934 w/ Canada newsprint labeling paper & letter

The sender wrote a letter on the back of this advertising (placemat size) newsprint.

Postal History Cover w/ letter written on special newsprint from Anglo-Canadian Pulp and Paper Mills Unlimited.
The envelope or cover is from Gananoque Canada.
Probably a wrapping tag or label to put around a roll of newsprint made in this mill. The sender used the back to write a letter. The envelope is decorated with nice designs and is slit at the top and the side and in good condition.

Standing Bear at the zoo in Kansas City Missouri Linen Postcard

This bear is caged in the Swope Park Zoo in Kansas City,  MO.  Bears seem to be a popular subject on postcards.  You see them playing in Yellowstone National Park, prowling in Yosemite, checking garbage cans in Glacier.  But Zoo animals are also popular on linen and chrome postcards.

Is this boot camp or what? Vintage Postcard says the Beauty Shop.

Residences In Lewistown Montana Early Postcard

I always like to research the towns that are featured on my postcards.  I have an interesting book called "Not In Precious Metals Alone" A Manuscript History of Motana compiled by the Montana Historical Society In Helena.

Here is an excerpt from a letter about Lewistown (not dated) from this book.

We had  a very interesting time at our State Central Committee at Lewistown....Women from all parts of the state made their first suffrage and open air speeches at the same time and the audiences enjoyed them very much. There was one anti in Lewistown.

One woman...said that the antis reminded her of the old jingle about the purple cow.  "I never saw a purple cow. I hope I never see one, but I can tell you anyhow, I would rather see than be one."

I picked this postcard as I found it different from most in my collection. It looks old but is actually an advertisement for a Postcard Show in Los Angeles...

Automated Post Office Coin Operated from Train Station in PA 1947 postcard

 THE "MAILOMAT"




A very different postcard showing a lady mailing a letter (no stamps required) and the postman collecting the letters from a coin-operated letter box. This postcard was mailed in 1947 from a Pennsylvia Railroad Station with mailing service for 24 hours a day. The postcard was provided by Pitney-Bowes, Inc and is available to mail to any address in the USA. From a mailing kioske that requires no stamps.

When post office lines are long try this stampless mailing convenience:
1. Drop a coin into the slot.
2. Dial value of stamp
3. Insert letter in slot, the machine does the rest.
